Hiya. I expect there will be some down votes from those who don’t think cryptocurrency is going mainstream yet. For everyone else, I wanted to share my recent experience getting a prepaid Visa credit card from crypto.com

I chose the lowest tier that still offers a refund for monthly Spotify and Netflix every month, a beautiful metal card, airport lounge access, and 3% cash back (not actually cash, more on that later). Oh, and no annual fee.

I was skeptical but read up on crypto.com and saw that they’re huge. They’re primarily a crypto trading platform, which is a good space to be in right now. And partnering anything crypto with Visa is a serious feat… I believe they were first to do so. To me that’s a sign of a competent company.

So I decided to go ahead and stake enough of their native token, CRO, to get the card for free. I did this about two months ago. The deal was that you had to stake 25,000 tokens, at the time worth less than CAD $2,500, for 6 months in order to receive the card. They’ve since changed their requirement so that you’ll soon need to stake $5,000 CAD for the Jade Green card that I went with. Before dismissing this as the furthest thing from a hot deal, I hope you’ll read my take on it.

Since I signed up for the card, the value of the crypto.com native token / currency has more than doubled. On top of that, “staking” is just committing to keeping the money in that native token for 6 months, while earning 10% interest.

If you’re bullish on crypto, you likely acknowledge that there’s a big upside right now for platforms that can attract users. Binance is leading the way, but based on my experience, crypto.com and its user-friendly app, ridiculous credit card offer, good exchange rates, easy Interac e-transfer deposits that clear within a couple hours, and full support for international users like us, is a promising company. Their market cap is over 5.5 billion CAD, they’re top 25 biggest tokens that exist, and they’re giving the equivalent of 3%cashback in their native token for credit card purchases. Trade their token for Bitcoin or Ethereum if you’d like.

They also offer staking at over 5% for other crypto on 3 month terms. So if you’re hodling Bitcoin, you can get an extra >5% while it increases in value as institutions come to the realization that it’s a great investment into the inevitable digital future that awaits us.

So there you have it, my extremely biased take on the crypto.com Visa card. If you believe in the future of blockchain, this is something you should get.
