I have used this quite a few times now for small fallen branches and twigs I would previously have hauled off to the dump. I use a standard 15amp 50ft heavy duty outdoor extension cord that I also use on my electric lawnmower. Soft wood branches it does the 1 to 1.5 inch easily. Hard wood, not so much and slower. The key is to go slow and let the machine draw the wood in and not shove it. If you put whole branches in it will go slow when you get too many ends with little twigs. Leaves really slow it down. I use the plunger at the end for the handfuls of twigs and any leaves on a branch. It also does a really great job mulching up green stuff like tall weeds and corn stalks. The mulch produced is really fine compared to wood chips you’d buy at a store. It is generally even and uniform in size though I found the machine would very occasionally strip off a long piece of bark that would come out like a foot long string. It’s noisy and if there is a kink or bend in the branch, it needs to be manipulated/turned as it goes in and that can sometimes reset in a twist and throw stuff back as it does. I highly recommend hearing protection, heavy duty work gloves, and eye protection unless you’re a lot tougher than me. It is also light and very easy to move around so I can tip it and roll it on the big wheels to where the job is in the yard and then roll it back into the garage when I’m done. Since I have plenty of uses for mulch in the garden, I prefer this to hauling the yard stuff off to the dump and buying mulch. As long as you keep in mind this is a light duty mulcher you’ll get along fine with it.
