Good evening fellow savers! Maybe my first post, but long time reader, so please go easy.
Building my deck, wood prices are another subject, but needed 40 bolts, washers, and screws for the 5 steps staircase. Went to Home Depot and picked them out of the bins, put them in the bag, when I got to the cashier it was over $125!!!! $21 and change for 40 washers ($0.53ish per – cost maybe $0.01), I think it was $1.67 per bolt, or almost $67)! Box quantities were not available.
I went to Home Hardware / United Lumber and got the exact same apples to apples which came to $26 (washers were $0.07, bolts were $0.47).
This is criminal. Home Depot is taking advantage of us, trying to keep this PG, yet a little Canadian company (HH) still shows integrity. I know this isn’t a hot deal, but saving $100 at HH’s regular price should be worthy of mentioning. Could have priced matched, less 10%, but didn’t want to give my time nor money to HD. HD has good deals, but the hardware section should be avoided at all cost!
Wanted to share my experience and give back to all you deal finders who’ve helped me in the past, but I failed to acknowledge.
