For the non-registered Bonus Rate GIC, the rate is for the $1,000 to $4,999 investment tier (refer to GIC rates). This rate is only applicable for the ‘At maturity’ interest payment frequency. Promo and Total Interest Rates may be lower if you select a different interest payment frequency.

Interest on non-registered GICs: For terms less than 1 year, simple interest is calculated and paid at maturity. For terms 1 year or more, simple interest is calculated and paid monthly, semi-annually or annually, depending on the payment option you select; or, compound interest is calculated annually and paid at maturity. For the monthly payment option, the annual interest rate will be 0.25% less than the rate shown (except if held by clients who are 60 years of age and older). For the semi-annual payment option, the annual interest rate will be 0.125% less than the rate shown.

Interest on registered GICs: For terms of 1 year or less, simple interest is calculated and paid at maturity. For terms over a year, compound interest will be calculated annually and paid at maturity.

3 For the non-registered CIBC Bonus Rate GIC, the minimum investment is $1,000 and the maximum is $999,999. For the CIBC Bonus Rate RRSP GIC and CIBC Bonus Rate TFSA GIC, the minimum investment is $500 and the maximum is $999,999.

A Bonus Rate GIC will automatically reinvest into a Bonus Rate GIC for the same term. If funds are withdrawn or transferred within 29 days of purchase, no interest will be paid on those funds. Where the maturity date falls on a non-business day the GIC will mature on the next business day.

5 For the non-registered CIBC Flexible GIC™, the minimum investment is $1,000 and the maximum is $999,999. For the CIBC Flexible RRSP GIC™ and CIBC Flexible TFSA GIC™, the minimum investment is $500 and maximum is $999,999.

6 This is the annual rate as of April 13, 2022 for the $1,000 to $24,999 non-registered investment tier (refer to GIC rates). The maximum investment is $999,999. It applies to new purchases only. The rate is equal to the CIBC Prime Rate less a fixed spread and will change one day after the CIBC Prime Rate changes. Simple interest is paid at maturity.

7 This is the annual rate as of April 13, 2022. It applies only to the portion invested in the 5-year term of the GIC (refer to GIC rates). The minimum investment is $2,500 ($500 for each of the 5 terms) and the maximum investment is $4,999,999 ($999,999 for each of the 5 terms).

8 Interest calculation: If a GIC is redeemed before maturity to transfer funds to the same account type at a different financial institution, no interest will be paid and a transfer fee will apply.

The current CIBC Prime Rate is 3.20%. If funds are withdrawn or transferred within 29 days of purchase, no interest will be paid on those funds. Where the maturity date falls on a non-business day the GIC will mature on the next business day.

9 The rates are fixed for each GIC’s term. The minimum investment is $500, the maximum investment is $999,999. To open a CIBC RRIF or LIF account, you need a minimum balance of $5,000.
