Amazon product: PNY Elite 480GB USB 3.0 Portable Solid State Drive (SSD) – (PSD1CS1050-480-FFS)
Everybody I show this to is stunned at the physical size, then doubly so when I tell them it’s a 500GB (well, close enough) SSD. Yeah not dumbdrive storage, but a proper fully controlled SSD. I have used this casually to transport files across my home machines, to and from work, and even took it with me on a 2300km bike ride from Vancouver to San Francisco and you just don’t notice you’re carrying that kinda storage, it’s almost invisible. | For my bike trip I wanted something small portable and reliable to take a daily backup of my camera and phone photos. Using My Android Nexus 6P with a USB-C dongle with USB3-A port and an SD reader it was a cinch. Plug in the dongle and both devices show up in a few seconds, then simply copy paste. A few GB of photos would copy over in a few minutes; in fact it seemed to be around 60secs per GB, but I’ve not timed it so don’t take that as gospel. | The ONLY complaints I would have are the dual-micro-usb-socket on the device so you HAVE to have one of those cables around and can’t share a regular micro cable, though I realise it’s necessary. I would LOVE to see a USB-C version of this drive come out so I can just carry one cable to charge my phone or connect this drive to it or my laptop. The only other thing is that the housing, at least on mine, isn’t 100% solid and the outer rattles a tiny bit over the two ends. It’s not loose, you can’t just slide it open, but there is a tiny rattling there. It doesn’t cause any problems, just worth mentioning. | Note the drive has a very small red activity LED on one end. I didn’t notice for the longest time as it’s not very bright but I prefer that to some of the piercing bright lights you get one some devices these days. | Performance, design, size, weight, I love everything about this drive and have recommended it to so many people.
