Needs no connection to the motherboard’s power supply , meaning no power cables required , less space , less clutter . Just make sure you have an express PCI-E connector available on your motherboard . The regular PCI connectors are generally white , and long : generally, there are five (5) of them on any given motherboard , in which are generally inserted extra video cards , extra sound cards , other expansion modules , etc . The express PCI-E connector is generally brown in colour , less than half the size of the normal PCI connectors identified above . The express PCI-E connector is generally located below the last regular white PCI connector , at the bottom of the motherboard . There is generally only one (1) express PCI-E connector available on any standard motherboard . Just plug it in and most recent Windows operating systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10) will immediately recognize the card and not require any separate installation . However , it is always best to download the latest software driver from the manufacturer’s website , clearly indicated on the package and in the included set-up guide . Comes with extra screws in case you need them . Basically , simply plug it in and enjoy . Increased any of my USB 2.0 / 3.0 external/portable drives by at least four (4) times the speed of a USB 2.0 port . Quite a noticeable upgrade for a fraction of the cost and a tremendous time-saving peripheral . Customer service is immediate via their website .
