I’ve been hauling a 14″ Gerber hatchet into the backcountry for years, and didn’t think twice about it. While a great tool, it’s heavy and takes a lot of effort for all but log splitting tasks. It’s also quite dangerous to swing around, particularly after a few drinks. | I decided to give the Laplander a try after reading many positive reviews, and it is just fantastic! Cutting large logs for firewood is so much easier and faster. It cuts through birch like butter, and I feel much safer knowing I’m not swing a heavy, sharp blade around. Plus, it weighs 1/3 of the hatchet. | Between this and battoning with my knife, I’ll be leaving the axe at home from now on.
