If anyone is in the market for a high quality soldering iron: Amazon currently has a sale on the Japanese import Hakko Dial type temperature limiting soldering iron FX600 (selectable 200W-500W) for $59.39, 15% off its regular price of $69.89. The lowest price I’ve seen this soldering iron for was around $50 pre-pandemic.
Hakko makes very good soldering irons, better than Weller these days in my opinion. This particular unit is a direct Japanese import, so is two-prong instead of a grounded 3 prong. This makes the cord lighter and thus easier to use and maneuver than the much more expensive US 3 prong with ground ( $113.81 via Amazon ).
This Japanese import soldering iron comes with a T18 B straight conical pointed tip and there are a wide variety of other T18 tips that can be found and attached. The US version comes with T19 tips which are harder to find.
